Yakutat, Alaska (YAK/PAYA), Saturday 14th November, 2020.

A female brown bear was killed after it was struck by the left engine of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-790 (WL), registration N615ASW, on landing in Yakutat, Alaska. The bear’s cub was found later unharmed at the airport.
The incident took place after dark and with poor visibility.
The runway had been inspected 10 minutes prior to the aircraft’s landing and it was reported there were no signs of wildlife.
The aircraft sustained damage to the left-hand engine’s inlet and cowling and onward flights were canceled due to the incident.
