BREAKING NEWS ANTONOV An-26 CRASH

Twenty two killed when military aircraft crashes and burns next to major road in Eastern Ukraine.

Reports and photos coming in show that a military Antonov An-26 with cadets of the Kozhedub Air Force University on-board has crashed in Eastern Ukraine near the eastern city of Chuhuiv, about 400km (250 miles) east of the capital Kyiv, in the Kharkiv region.

The aircraft was conducting a training flight and was in the process of landing when the accident happened about 20h50 local time.

By 10h00 the fire had been extinguished, allowing investigators to start finding the cause of the crash.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said 28 people were on-board: 21 cadets and 7 crew. Sources say 22 people were killed in the crash, 2 reportedly survived, having sustained severe burns to 90% of their body, with 4 still missing.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy  said that a government commission had been tasked with investigating “all the circumstances and causes” of the crash.

The reason why the aircraft crashed is still unknown at present.
